2010 Event calendar:

CANCER RIDE

The Cancer Ride has been rescheduled for August 22nd at Henry of Pelham Winery. If you have already submitted your pledges, but would like to continue getting more - your total from the first submission will be added to your second submission. See everyone there. Rain or shine (barring extreme weather).

Lake Erie Swim

Date/Start Time: July 18 2010, @ 12 noon (later start allows for things to warm up)

Contact Information: Dave Belme, 905 382-3662, davebelme@hotmail.com

Directions to Start: From Highway 3 headed to Fort Erie turn right (south) on Pt Abino Road. Follow Pt Abino rd south until you hit Lake Erie (about 5km.). Look for boat launch and parking area on left as soon as you see water.

GPS Coordinates: N 42 degrees 51.294, W 79 degrees 5.634

Costs: FREE!!!!

Parking Considerations: Parking is very limited. If at all possible, share rides so that everyone comes with a full trailer

Terrain and Footing: Boat ramp can be a bit slippery. The lake bottom is sandy with no drop offs. Aquatic weed beds are here and there (Hello… it’s a lake!) There is a possibility of running into junk on the bottom, especially mooring anchors used by boaters. Usually the water is clear enough to see where you’re stepping. As always, you are responsible for your horse.

Traffic Considerations: There is always boat traffic in the bay. They usually give us a wide berth but don’t count on it.

Approximate Ride Length: 2 hours

Aprez Ride: Pot luck at Dave and Sue’s place, 3380 Willow Rd. Stevensville. Take Pt Abino rd north again till it ends at Netherby Rd. (about 15km) Turn right (east) and a quick left (north). Turn down driveway by barn with 2 orange traffic cones on either side. Park out in pasture. Water will be available for horses.

Additional Comments: Rain or a stiff east or south wind will cancel this ride. Check your e mails in the morning. If any doubt call (905 382-3662) Although we are generally well received, not all Pt. Abino residents think that horses in the water is a great idea. Parking, manure pick up etc. is always under scrutiny. For safety, please give other wading horses plenty of room. As per the motion Passed at June 9th,2010 meeting, please ensure that all members are “Payed in full”. Note that Membership forms and a designated money collector will be available on site for those wishing to join in the merriment!
